Lynjbennett65's Status Updates

"News update: I just thought you all would like to know that I received a call from the mayor of my town regarding the response to my report re: the dog bite/attack. She's not only my town Mayor but she's also on the county council so she has the ability to bring to light holes in the safety net that is supposed to protect us all. When I explained my situation she was quite appalled and asked about my rare diseases and how the attack impacted me not only physically but mentally. It turns out that her nephew may have Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome. She wanted my best advice as to how to get him help so he's not waiting 10 years for a diagnosis like I did. Now she has the complete picture on how difficult it has been to find the right help. I encouraged her to get the whole family involved in supporting and raising awareness for Peter, her nephew. I don't think anyone will slip through the cracks at the health department again. Peter's father is a well known lawyer in the area. Once he gets the sense that my disability was not accommodated I'm sure there will be changes in the Health Department. I know there isn't enough money, there never is but it's imperative for survival that we care for the rare and the physically weak among us. (we all know rare doesn't mean weak... it means strong in a way that most people can't fathom) Take heart, fight on, you aren't alone. "My dog Rosie, learning fast, growing strong.

  1. , that's amazing! You all figured out a way to communicate and assuage her uncertainty! I LOVE that!! This will really help her feel secure more quickly! I think she definitely found the right home <3 - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)

  2. Rosie is doing amazingly well. We've had her a few weeks now. She's getting used to the schedule. I've come to the conclusion that our schedule is the biggest challenge we face. She had no schedule, then a schedule at the humane society shelter, now our schedule all within the space of a year. We take it one day at a time. Every single day she learns something new or shows us she's figured out how something works. We play music for her through a battery powered Bluetooth speaker. When she's not sure about the sounds she hears she walks to the speaker and touches it with her nose. If we were quick enough to hear what she heard we explain the sound and give her extra attention for being so good. She's not only keeping us moving physically but mentally too!

  3. , Rosie is sweet, and we all have our challenges, lol. She just needs a little extra lov to get beyond her past. I know she will get it with you! I'm glad you found each other!

I look forward to hearing updates, it's a pretty awesome coincidence! - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)

  4. The dog bite sort of set me back a bit in my progress with my POTS syndrome. It happens sometimes with neurogenic POTS. However having Rosie has helped me immeasurably. Whenever I'm feeling particularly down or a little frustrated playing with Rosie helps. She comes with her challenges but she loves her people and we love her. We struggle with her training but honestly she's incredibly smart. I don't think I'd change anything about her.

I'm very grateful for not only having the ability to help the Mayor but also to make my case through a common rare syndrome. I'll keep you posted.

  5. , I'm so happy to hear that you got a little traction with this situation. I'm glad they have the ability to move forward the cause. It's amazing that her nephew has the same condition, adn that she is getting a real understanding of how difficult it is to get healthcare, especially with a rare condition.

Lovely picture of your girl! How is she doing, and how are you doing? - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)
