What’s wrong with my daughter

Hi my name is araselys. My daughter’s name is aniah. Aniah is 16, I took her to the hospital a year ago with abdominal pain. They said she had colitis and sent her to a GI dr. The Gi doc orders CT and Blood work. When all that is done he says she doesn’t have colitis, and run more tests. Blood work has come back normal 6 different times. CT’s are normal, MRI’s are normal. Stool sample has been normal. She started this problem weighing 205 pounds she now weighs 163 and has lost 8 pounds in the last 6 weeks. No medication helps. She was active and played sports prior to this but has since stopped due to the constant crippling abdominal pain. Someone please help my baby. She is in pain everyday and I have no answers at all.

  1. my immediate thought was has she been seen by a neurologist to be evaluated for Abdominal Migraine. I developed it as an adult. Also, have they done an EGD and Colonoscopy? best wishes to you both!

    1. Hi , there are many conditions that can contribute to unexplained weight loss. You can read about some of them here https://www.mayoclinic.org/symptoms/unexplained-weight-loss/basics/causes/sym-20050700 - Hopefully this will give you some talking points to bring to your doctor. Please stay in touch and let us know how your daughter is doing. - Warmly, Donna (Team Member)

      1. Hello ,
I am so sorry that your dear daughter has been suffering and that the GI doc wasn't able to discover what is wrong.
Unfortunately, the team here aren't medical providers, but perhaps someone else will see your post and be able to help you with more suggestions...
All I can think to suggest is for you to insist with her primary care doctor that they figure out another expert to send her to. Getting a diagnosis and treatments can take being a ' very squeaky wheel.' You may need to ask for specific testing... perhaps allergy testing? Celiac disease testing, and anything that might cause unintentional weight loss?
