Recognizing the Symptoms of Eye Conditions

Understanding the symptoms of various eye conditions can help in early detection and treatment, preserving vision and eye health. Common symptoms such as blurred vision, eye pain, redness, floaters, and sensitivity to light can indicate issues ranging from refractive errors to more serious conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, or retinal detachment. If you experience any unusual changes in your vision or eye discomfort, seeking prompt evaluation by an eye care professional is essential. Regular eye exams are vital in identifying asymptomatic conditions before they cause significant damage.

    1. Hi Benjamin,
Thank you for helping to raise awareness around the need to get regular eye examinations, and what symptoms might indicate an eye problem arising.

Have you had any eye issues related to either disease or medications along your healthcare journey?

I know from personal experience that having been on a medication that can damage eyesight for 17 months straight (21 months total) brought on extra worry for me. Luckily, I came out of it ok, but I know a number of MAC Lung Disease patients who needed to come off the med (Ethambutol) when their optic nerve was negatively affected.

  2. Thank you for your post ,
I especially appreciate being reminded that asymptomatic doesn't mean disease-free... eyesight is so precious and we all must get proper regular testing, no different than going to a dentist regularly.
