How safe are they?

  1. Thanks for clarification on medical trials.

  2. I am just curious, in general, how safe any trials are. I have never considered one because my body is so sensitive to many medications. I just broke out in hives the first IVIG they did this time. It was a different medicine from 2 1/2 years ago.

    1. , that's a good question and I think one that can be very hard to answer. They are generally as safe as the researchers can make them, especially when it comes to medical trials. That said, many times, they are on the cutting edge of treatments and for more serious diseases and rare diseases, the researchers may be looking at some pretty bold treatment options. I am sorry you have a sensitive body and that you broke out in hives. One of my kid's has a very sensitive body and I know it can be frustrating when everything from new ingredients in foods to skincare products can send your body and its immune system into overdrive.

Also, all studies should have pretty throrough paperwork for participants to read through before signing. And, that paperwork can be dense annd daunting, but I am glad they take that precaution and list pretty much every and all possible side effects (that they know of) in said paperwork. But, it's not uncommon for more side effects to present during a clinical trial.
