How do you find a doctor who will actually look at your whole medical history?

One of the things I keep hearing from people living with complex or rare conditions is how difficult it can be to find a doctor who has the time and willingness to look at the whole picture.

Not just the most recent lab result or the diagnosis in the chart, but years of labs, symptoms, medications, imaging, genetic testing, previous diagnoses, and changes over time.

I recently started building a community-sourced database of physicians who are willing to spend more time reviewing patients' health information and helping them make sense of it.

The list currently has 200+ physicians across the U.S., and I'm trying to make it more useful for people who are navigating complicated or unusual health situations.

I'm curious what others in the rare disease community think:

How did you find a doctor who was willing to really dig into your history?
Have you ever brought years of medical records or lab results to a new physician and had them actually go through them with you?
What makes a doctor particularly good at working with patients who have complex or rare conditions?
Would a community-sourced directory of physicians be useful, or do you think there are better ways to find the right specialist?

I've started the database here if anyone wants to take a look: https://doctor-gatherer.lovable.app/

This isn't affiliated with a testing company and I'm not selling anything. I'm just trying to make it easier for people to find clinicians who are willing to engage with the complexity of their medical history.

I'd especially love to hear from people who have been through a long diagnostic journey, what do you wish you had known when you were trying to find the right doctor?
