My Rare Disease: Primary Immunodeficiency CVID

Hi. My name is Sandy. Here's my story.

Always sick as a child

All my life I struggled with multiple infections, viruses and sickness. I can remember being sick as a young child. My doctor at the time would tell us there was something wrong with my immune system, that I get sick too often. He tried to research and find out but couldn't. He retired. As I aged and handled my own medical care, I would tell my physicians what my initial doctor said. They agreed but didn't know what.

Tests revealed primary immunodeficiency CVID diagnosis decades later

Finally, in my 40s, my primary care physician at the time informed me he knew an allergist immunologist who knew more about the immune system, and he referred me to that allergist immunologist. That Dr. Tested my IGg levels and gave me a pneumonia, tetanus, and diphtheria vaccine test. I had very little response to the vaccines, and my IGG levels were, I believe, below 400 level. I was diagnosed with primary immunodeficiency CVID.
